The new Faculty Vice President is passionately committed to maintaining standards and closing the gap between public health's academic and service communities
Tuesday, 26 June 2007
The Faculty has a new Vice President, Steve George, sworn in at this year's AGM. As well as deputising for the President in his absence, the Vice President chairs the Faculty's Standards Committee, and maintaining standards is something that's very close to Steve's heart.
As Academic Registrar at the Faculty, he has been responsible for membership examinations, approval of training placements, specialist accreditation and CPD, among many other things.
His immediate priorities will centre around this passionate commitment to high standards - especially around how busy public health professionals balance their workloads and CPD commitments. He also wants to make sure that understanding between the academic and service sides of public health is improved.
Steve has been based at the University of Southampton since 1992 and has published more than 80 papers on public health, as well as leading undergraduate education in public health and medical statistics until earlier this year.
