This national conference is the first of its kind and will focus on the unique role which social workers have in facilitating the fulfilment of the intention to provide choice and dignity. The role of other professions is well known to the general public, but there is a growing awareness that in their important position of being able to enable people, social workers can have a positive impact on people's experiences as they approach the end of their lives.

The conference will examine how this can be achieved in a variety of settings and look at innovative practice in how services can be personalised and increase the quality of care experienced. RCPE Symposium - Infectious Diseases: A Brave New World?

Date: 11 June 2010

Infectious diseases continue to challenge on many different levels. This symposium covers some of these important changes and builds on previous symposia in further defining the expanding role of infection specialists in the modern hospital. We are delighted also to focus on emerging neurological infections, perhaps the most challenging of all infections to manage. The meeting should be of particular interest to trainees and practising hospital clinicians, microbiologists and public health physicians but many topics will also be of relevance to GPs, nurses and pharmacists working in the field of infection.
